The opening post is from a person whom does not have a TV licence!
Yet he is commenting on the standard of programmes on the BBC and the Kings speech! He knows how many have tuned in to it, because he was one of those freeloaders watching it for free
You could not make this up

He is that full of BS it must be close to trickling out of his ears.

BB I was 'orrified when I could't find Zulu on this year but luckily, the great escape made up for it, I have spent most time planning 2024 and my own personal great escape to the outdoors, Its gonna be a ' no telly at all' tour of Scotland to remote places in unchartered territory just me, me bike, me camping equipment , loch Monsters and wee Mooses and a dram or two of the fire water,,,

During my research into Scotland I've learned, A Scottish tradition is to burn a roan branch on the fire, This according to folk lore burns off feuds between family and friends, I'll try this on my camp fires , So perhaps on my return my haters might have buried the hatchet and greet me back with an olive branch,,

Tom,
Interesting.
By the path approaching my front door, I have the most enormous Rowan Tree I ever did see: it is taller than a three storey house.
I have learned that the Victorians often planted them by a front door: the superstition being that they did not allow a witch to pass and enter the house.
Does not work. I have a friend who is a witch, and she has obviously not been instructed in this particular bit of Wicca etiquette.

pure evil Peter, A mixture of an unloved childhood and a feeling of insecurity coupled with small genitals and stella beer can be a recipe for a oncoming downfall,

If there is one thing missing from television now, especially around Christmas time, it is the absence of new good films on the freeview channels making their television Premier and the person to blame for it is multi millionaire Murdoch and his Sky Movies Channel for which you have to pay a subscription to see the latest new films or go to a cinema which these days is not as cheap as it used to be in the days of the old town centre cinemas.
Either way, they have you paying too much!

OC
Rupert Murdoch sold Sky TV 5 years ago. It’s owned by Comcast.

gaffer
I did not know that, but it would appear that they have just carried on doing the same thing!

For some one who has the TV on to entertain the missus when she is awake the programmes are dire. Repeats after repeats.Back to back Carry on films which were on last week. Midsomer murders back to back. Heartbeat on at night repeated the day after ,that series must be on either its third or fourth repeat.Even the Repair shop running for hours We have Freeview Play and never really need to watch catch up channels because the programmes are repeated that much there is no need for us to use the catch up channels .We like watching All Creatures Great and Small but I thought the Christmas Edition was boring ,The missus has not seen it yet so I will have to sit through it again.God bless her if she now watches a programme and it is repeated the day after she does not remember watching it the 1st time

Only 7 million many have watched the King's speech live, but how many enjoying a Christmas meal or at a party enjoying themselves recorded it to watch later, especially those who were working on the essential jobs in emergency services, hospitals, care homes, public transport etc.
The days of having to listen or view at 3.00 p.m have long gone with the new technology.

Tom , you'll never ever see Zulu again on TV . Far too colonial / racist /
I watched it on dvd over Xmas . The clowns who have banned it don't realise it's really an anti war film .
Replied: 31st Dec 2023 at 09:12
Zulu is actually adverised as being on Channel Four today at 4.00pm unless the woke brigade get it taken off and not let people make their own minds up about the battle of Roukes Drift and the heroism of the soldiers who faught there.
Gone with the Wind which was taken off following the killing of the black american criminal by racist police has also been restored and rightly so to allow people to make their own minds up about what they want to watch about the history of the past.

O.C , I bet it's edited . Like they do with The Dambusters .

Come back Mary "Shithouse " Whitehouse who would watch a programme before it was aired and then tried to have it bannedThe "woke" brigade are of a similar ilk with their attitude of trying to dictate what you can watch or even freedom of speech. There are Vets programmes which start with a warning there could be veterinary procedures . We read about one person out of 68 million who complain about something or other and the said item is removed

I'd rather read War and Peace than watch the stuff they dished out this Christmas.
Replied: 31st Dec 2023 at 11:54
Yes I watched Zulu on Chanel 4 and enjoyed it too, I also learned that, It was Michael Caine's first movie and he acted well in it, If there was any editing I didn't notice it but then, I can't say I remember every act and scene of the Movie,
That made my Christmas Complete, All I need now is a Bond movie, Preferably with Sean Connery , Goldfinger is my favourite, Things went, OTT when Sean Connery finished,,

I think telly usually crap around Christmas and NY.
But this year, worst ever IMHO.
Still, got a fair bit of reading in instead.
Very revealing. Hardback for £1-50 from Amazon.
Replied: 1st Jan 2024 at 16:14
I agree, it has been utter crap, and the best they can show is stuff from50+ years ago.
But I enjoyed that Beatles program on BBC1 last night

I think I will watch 'Mr Bates vz The Post Office' at 9pm on ITV 1.
I have nothing but fond memories of working for the GPO. Saw less corruption there than other employers.
So, I am really saddened to see what it has become.
The power of the state: always a potential threat and so easily abused.

FM posted, " I'd rather read War and Peace than watch the stuff they dished out this Christmas"
Having read the said book, I have no desire to read it again,so I have echoed FM's sentiments, and indicated the reading which I actually did pursue as an alternative to the crap telly offerings. Have illustrated it, as Amazon are offering the hardback for 30 bob. Less than cost of PB or Kindle version.
OC this is the very last time that I will respond to any such questions from you.

Only pointing out that the topic was about what programmes have been on television over the Christmas period which was going well until the poster about Thump appeared.

Yes, as long as the comment is about the topic in question and does not digress into something which has nothing to do with the topic which happened on this particular topic on the 1st Jan 2024 at 16.14.
Might explain why some posters are now reluctant to post a topic or even a comment!
